AI
Google’s DeepMind UK team reportedly seeks to unionize
Around 300 London-based members of Google’s AI-focused DeepMind team seek to unionize with the Communication Workers Union.
These DeepMind employees are reportedly unhappy about Google’s decision to remove a pledge not to use AI for weapons or surveillance.
They’re also concerned about the company’s work with the Israeli military, including a $1.2 billion cloud computing contract.
Huawei develops new AI chip seeking to match Nvidia
China’s Huawei Technologies is preparing to test its newest and most powerful artificial intelligence processor.
Huawei has approached some Chinese tech companies about testing the technical feasibility of the new chip, called the Ascend 910D.
The people interviewed indicate that the chip is in early development and will undergo a series of tests to evaluate its performance.
Meta’s ‘digital companions’ will talk about sex with users, even children
AI chatbots available on Meta’s platforms, like Facebook and Instagram, can engage in sexually explicit conversations with underage users.
A Meta spokesperson described the WSJ’s testing as ‘so manufactured that it’s not just fringe, it’s hypothetical.’
The company estimated that in 30 days, sexual content accounted for 0.02% of responses shared with users under 18.
ROBOTICS
Tesla's robot is aiming to replace human labor
Optimus Gen 3 has entered the pilot production stage at Tesla's plant in Fremont, California.
This marks another important step in Elon Musk’s ambitious initiative to integrate intelligent robots, human-sized and human-looking.
The new model appears more ‘anatomical,’ with less rounded shoulders and a joint structure resembling a biological one.
Rice-sized robot could rewrite the neurosurgery playbook
Robeauté SA’s neurosurgical microrobot, a tethered, internally propelled system designed to reduce the trauma of accessing brain lesions.
“We’re building what we call a brain gardener, a microrobot that can prune, replant, stimulate growth,” said Joana Cartocci.
Robeauté claims to be building a platform that can ‘plug in’ new instruments as procedures evolve.
Flying robots unlock new horizons in construction
Researchers investigated how aerial robots could be used as autonomous construction platforms in the future.
Construction drones can reach places that are inaccessible to conventional machines, be it in the mountains or even distant planets.
For the time being, Aerial AM remains a complementary solution to existing ground-based robotic systems.
GameFi tokens show signs of life after Gala Games
Gala Games has partnered with the White House to bring a blockchain-based Easter Egg Hunt to the 2025 Easter Egg Roll.
The collaboration marks a potential comeback for gaming tokens, which have been underperforming in the crypto market.
GameFi tokens have seen better comparative performance over the past week.
Bitget will legally pursue 8 accounts suspected of profiting $20M
Crypto exchange Bitget said it will legally pursue the users behind eight accounts suspected of manipulating one of the platform’s markets.
Bitget's market for a little-known token called VOXEL suddenly surged with volume as the token's price increased by more than 500% its value.
The platform promised to return any recovered funds to platform users in the form of an airdrop.
Firms are adding Solana to corporate treasuries, Bitcoin still leads the way
Solana’s SOL is also entering the mix as companies build treasuries they can stake and as a gateway to the broader Solana ecosystem.
The increase in corporations allocating Bitcoin and now Solana to their treasuries reflects a shift in companies managing risk and seeking growth.
“Solana isn’t just an asset—it’s a high-performance financial operating system,” Repetný told The Defiant.
